Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Vehicle Equipment Installer to join our growing team. This position focuses on the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of specialized equipment in law enforcement and commercial vehicles, including lighting systems, radios, computers, cameras, GPS systems, prisoner transport equipment, and other integrated electronics. The ideal candidate has a strong background in vehicle electronics and takes pride in precise, secure, and code-compliant installations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install and configure emergency and commercial vehicle equipment including:
    • Light bars, sirens, radios, push bumpers, and cages
    • In-vehicle video/audio systems
    • Mobile data terminals (MDTs) and mounts
    • Power inverters, GPS, and communications systems
  • Perform wiring, routing, and custom fabrication to ensure clean, professional results
  • Test all equipment and systems to ensure full functionality before delivery
  • Read and interpret installation manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment or wiring issues as needed
  • Maintain inventory of tools, hardware, and install supplies
  • Ensure all installations are up to departmental standards and vehicle safety codes
  • Accurately document work performed and complete installation checklists
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area

Qualifications

Required:

  • 1–3 years of experience installing vehicle electronics, automotive wiring, or upfitting experience
  • Understanding of 12V electrical systems, relays, and fuses
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred:

  • Experience with law enforcement vehicle outfitting
  • ASE Certification, EVT Certification, or equivalent (a plus)
  • Experience with CAN bus systems and integrated vehicle controls
  • Ability to fabricate mounts, brackets, or panels as needed

Working Conditions

  • Primarily in a shop or garage setting; occasional work may be done in field conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, kneel, and work in confined vehicle spaces
  • Standard working hours with occasional overtime or weekend work as needed
